Finance Center for South-South Cooperation Team Went to Laos and Thailand for Project Investigation on Sustainable Agriculture, with A Group of External Experts

On 18-23 December, 2023, Finance Centre for South-South Cooperation Team joined experts from the University of Melbourne, the World Food Programme, the Overseas Centre of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the Global Environment Institute (GEI), and the Xinyangfeng Agricultural Technology Co., Ltd. , carried out investigations on sustainable agriculture in Laos and Thailand. Director General Wu Zhong and Deputy Director General Liu Qianqian of FCSSC participated in this project investigation.


At the "Green Rice Value Chain Seminar" held during the visit to Laos, Liu Qianqian, Deputy Director General of FCSSC delivered a keynote speech on "Promoting Knowledge Sharing in Sustainable Agriculture in the Global South".  She shared FCSSC's focus on sustainable development in the Global South, as well as the experience and achievements in knowledge sharing in recent years. She also introduced the basic ideas and design of a knowledge sharing platform for sustainable agriculture in the Global South, which FCSSC plans to build in the future.


During the project investigation, the whole team visited World Food Programme Office in Laos, the FAO Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific in Bangkok, the Lao Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and the headquarters of Asia-Pacific Rural and Agricultural Credit Association Association, and conducted field research on the rice demonstration center of Xuanye (Laos) Co., Ltd. in Vientiane, Laos, local rice trading enterprises in Vientiane, China-Laos railway cross-border freight terminal, Thailand sustainable coconut forest project and coffee bean project.


As a part of FCSSC's sustainable agriculture project, this investigation provides a comprehensive understanding of local crops and related agricultural value chains in Southeast Asian countries, laying a solid foundation for further research on relevant topics and for building a network of knowledge sharing platforms about sustainable agriculture in the Global South.
