On October 14, 2019, Dr. Wu Zhong, Vice Chairman and Director General of the Finance Center for South-South Cooperation, was invited to attend the workshop of Industrial Park, Cluster Development, and Structure Transformation in Tashkent Uzbekistan. The workshop was jointly organized by the Institute of New Structural Economics at Peking University and the Aloqabank. The meeting aimed to propose policy recommendations for the cluster development and industrial parks in Uzbekistan.
A seminar on Industrial Park, Cluster Development, and Structure Transformation in Uzbekistan was hosted after the workshop, focus on topics such as opportunities and challenges in the economic and social development of Uzbekistan. At the meeting, Dr. Wu Zhong spoke on “The Opportunities and Challenges Faced by Uzbekistan in the Current Global Economic Background." He pointed out that Uzbekistan Development Cluster needs a holistic, comprehensive, and cyclical approach to identifying competitive advantages and restrictive conditions, guiding the situation base on the general trend by the government, the development of the industrial park, and attract investment. The development of industrial parks requires the cooperation of the macro environment and the pilots in the park to fully realize the competitive advantages of Uzbekistan’s low-cost labor and promising government. It is also important to respond to the request from the corporate.
Professor Lin Yifu, Dean of the Institute of New Structural Economics at Peking University, Alisher Abdualiev, Deputy Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan, Kammuna Irisbekova, Chairman of the Joint-Stock Commercial "Aloqabank", the Deputy Governor of Bukhara, First Deputy Governor of Namangan region, and representatives from institutions such as the Asian Development Bank and the United Nations Development Programme attended the meeting.
