EDUCATION TRANSFORMS LIVES: 2017 Charity Dinner - South South Education Foundation

South South Education Foundation is a non-profit charitable organization approved by the Inland Revenue Department of the Government of Hong Kong, SAR of China. We support the Global Education Agenda as part of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and firmly believe that “the world is different with education”. In support of Goal 4 “Quality Education” of the United Nations 2030 Development Agenda, we are devoting our efforts to creating communication platforms for education, supporting talents training, seconding teachers to rural areas, donating teaching equipment, and conducting research among countries of the global South. Together with our sister NGO - Finance Center for South-South Cooperation, which was accorded a special consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), we intend to intensify our efforts with UN agencies, and also in the field to promote sustainable development.

Knowledge lights up dreams; education transforms lives.

In the past year, through our efforts, we have launched a series of charity programs to support The Global Education 2030 Agenda, which aims to “ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all”:

  • Under the “One Laptop, One Dream” program, the Foundation have donated laptops and computers to students in six developing countries, including Sri Lanka, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Myanmar, Serbia and Sudan with many more to come;
  • As part of our South-South Education Program for Economics and Finance, 26 high-level finance elites from 24 countries were provided training at Tsinghua University to learn the experience of finance industry in China and the world;
  • With the South-South Education Program for Space and Earth Information Science in Asia Pacific, we support qualified candidates selected by United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and Pacific to pursue postgraduate study in the Chinese University of Hong Kong;
  • We are also constructing the main building for “South South Babie Primary School in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region” of China;
  • Together with “Teach for China”, we are supporting 50 teachers to get involved in compulsory education for the “left-behind children” for a two-year term; and
  • Through the research program of “Chinese Characters Study” and “South-South Cooperation Annual Report 2017”, the Foundation is contributing to knowledge sharing among developing countries.

We hope you will get impressed by our efforts and effective results from last year and further volunteer your generous support to our Foundation in promoting the noble goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, among those most in need.
