The forum was hosted by the Chinese State Council Leading Group Office of Poverty Alleviation and Development(LGOP) and the Laos National Committee for Rural Development and Poverty Eradication (NCRDPE), and co-organized by International Poverty Reduction Center in China, Planning and International Cooperation Department of NCRDPE and the Finance Center for South-South Cooperation.
Speaking at the forum, Ms. Zhang said that China has lifted more than 600 million people out of poverty through development-oriented poverty alleviation and led the world in achieving the poverty reduction goal in MDGs. China’s experience is worth summarizing and sharing, and South-South Cooperation is the best practical platform to do so.
In addition, she also expressed that the connotations of South-South Cooperation have enriched significantly in the last 60 years, from political alliance and economic cooperation to many of the imminent issues such as climate changes and security. Therefore, as development issues becoming more complex than before, we need to continually innovate and improve our financing mechanism to meet the new demands.
The ASEAN-China Forum on Social Development and Poverty Reduction was first proposed by the LGOP at 2006 and the initiative was greatly support by ASEAN countries. The forum aims to provide an exchange platform for policymakers, scholars, and experts to share their experiences and best practices on social development and poverty reduction related issues.
Moreover, on July 30th, accompanied by representatives from NCRDPE, Ms. Zhang and other delegates from the forum looked at the rural credit and rural foundation projects which was developed by NCRDPE to support poverty reduction and life quality improvement in the rural areas.
