On July 13-16, 2015, Director-General Wu Zhong paid a visit to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to observe the work of the Third International Conference on Financing for Development.
The Conference gathered high-level political representatives, including Heads of State and Government, and Ministers of Finance, Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation, as well as all relevant institutional stakeholders, non-governmental organizations and business sector entities. The Conference resulted in a negotiated outcome, "Addis Ababa Action Agenda" , which provides the following:
1) A new global framework for financing sustainable development that aligns all financing flows and policies with economic, social and environmental priorities; and
2)A comprehensive set of policy actions by Member States, with a package of over 100 concrete measures that draw upon all sources of finance, technology, innovation, trade and data in order to support mobilization of the means for a global transformation to sustainable development and achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
During his stay at Addis Ababa, Director-General Wu visited the Eastern Industry Zone, accompanied by Helen Hai, Goodwill Ambassador of UNIDO and adviser to the governments of Ethiopia. As introduced by the Ambassador, the Eastern Industry Zone successfully won the bidding for "the Second Oversea Economic Cooperation Zone" in 2007, sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce and Trade of China. Moreover, the industry zone has been a vital part of "the Sustainable Development and Poverty Reduction Program (SDPRP)" of the Ethiopian federal government. Specifically, the industry zone has provided nearly 5,000 employments to local citizens and it has been a major GDP contributor to the local government.
