On September 4, 2017, at the beginning of the new semester, South South Education Foundation (SSEF) held a donation ceremony in Central Primary School of Babie Township. Mr. Cai E’sheng, Chairman of SSEF, Dr. Wu Zhong, Director-General of SSEF, Ms. Jenny Yao, Deputy Director-General of SSEF, Mr. Wen Shifeng, Deputy Secretary-General of the People’s Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Mr. Lou Kuiliang, Deputy Secretary-General of the People’s Government of Baise city, Mr. Wei Sheng, Chairman of the Political Consultative Conference in Tianyang county, and other related figures attended the ceremony.
With a ￥3.96 million project fund, SSEF would like to offer the Primary School financial support and thus build a better studying environment for students. Founded in 1937, the Central Primary School of Babie Township locates in the southern mountainous region, 56 kilometers away from Tianyang County. Among 570 pupils from 13 villages of Babie Township, 363 are left-behind children raised by their grandparents. In March this year, a delegation of SSEF went to Tianyang county to research on the Foundation’s poverty-alleviation projects, which were in line with its commitment to “Education Fights Poverty”. The delegation visited those schools for disabled and left-behind children, and finally chose the Central Primary School of Babie Township near the China-Vietnam border as SSEF’s first poverty-alleviation project.
Dr. Wu Zhong, Director-General of SSEF, said that SSEF chose Babie district because 60% to 70% children here were left-behind children. Although the government has put great effort in poverty alleviation, SSEF would like to find the most meaningful targets hardly covered by government budgets. After the field trip in March, Ms. Jenny Yao, Deputy Director-General of SSEF, made the decision to choose Guangxi as the pilot project, and hope to facilitate the sustainable development of educational poverty alleviation.
Mr. Wei Sheng, Chairman of the Political Consultative Conference in Tianyang county, mentioned that as the origin of Zhuang, Tianyang had a long history; however, due to the hard education conditions in Southern mountainous area, the educational infrastructure was so bad that those left-behind children could not have quality education. He noted that the teaching building donated by SSEF mean a lot to Tianyang, an encouragement that not only provided financial support, but also brought hope to all the teachers and students in the county.
Concerning with the construction quality of the teaching building, Dr. Wu specially asked the officials in the Education Bureau to double check the construction quality, since SSEF was not only improving the hardware conditions for the Primary School, but also bringing warmness to the students to boost their confidence.
At the end of the donation ceremony, SSEF was awarded an honorary plaque by Tianyang government.
